Fen Orchid

The Fen Orchid also known as Liparis Loeselii is one of BC’s rarest orchids. This Orchid grows in moist and wet areas. It has green, scaled buds and green leaves. The leaves are elliptical or spear shaped depending on the variety. The leaves grow on opposite sides of the stem. Flowers are grouped loosely at the top and are yellowish greenish in colour. They can grow 6-20 centimeters in height. They are endangered due to drainage and pollution. It's also possibly due to the fact that peat (soil-like material that provides an ideal place for them to grow) digging has stopped. Due to these factors this plant is losing its habitat (places to live and grow).
