Symbiosis

An example of symbiotic relationships are red squirrels and Sitka spruce. Red squirrel derives the bulk of its diet from the seeds of Sitka spruce. They nest in and under their favourite trees. They then store cones in burrows and doesn’t always remember where they put them so that spreads the seeds. Their digging aerates the soil around the roots and their waste also becomes compost, returning nutrients from squirrel to the tree. This benefits both the red squirrel and tree in this mutualistic relationship.
