Species at Risk

Even though rats and raccoons aren't invasive, they are one of the reasons why the ancient murrelet is at risk. Raccoons and rats are hunting these birds at their nesting sites. The marbled murrelet is another species at risk. However, these species are unfortunately only two out the many other species that are at risk. The BC Conservation Data Centre has 1,511 species listed, 754 of which are red listed which means that they are endangered or threatened. The other 757 are blue listed which they are under special concern.
